Who We Are

The St. Johns County Horse Council was established in 1999 when a public meeting was held at the County Agricultural Center to examine means to prevent a pending law to prohibit riding on the Public Beaches of St.Johns County. The attendance was outstanding – over 300 people attended. The urgency of this general meeting and the large turnout were a direct response by equestrians preserve riding rights in the County. Since that time the Council has become involved in promoting all types of equine activities and raising awareness regarding the economic impact of horses in our county.

What We Do

The Mission of the St. Johns County Horse Council is to promote, defend and propagate equestrian interests in St. Johns County through its inclusion and representation of all equine enthusiasts in our county. The SJCHC negotiates with Federal, State and Local agencies to preserve the rights to ride in the county, and promote the preservation of riding lands and the initiation of riding trails, centers and other riding places. In order to validate the significance of horses locally, SJCHC has an interest in determining the number of horses in St. Johns County. Comprehensive study is being planed to measure the economic impact of the horse industry in St. Johns County. The Council hopes to work with UF-IFAS.
